This resource includes 5 carefully curated primary sources to analyze that will enhance any Age of Jackson & Sectionalism unit. It is aligned to my Age of Jackson & Sectionalism Unit Bundle. Each of the primary documents focuses on one aspect of this time period to analyze. There is a PDF & GOOGLE version.
Primary documents include:
•map of the canals and railroads in the U.S. in 1853
•letter from Brigadier General John E. Wool to the Cherokees about the Treaty of New Echota and the Cherokee’s forced removal
•political cartoon about Texas gaining statehood
•oath of the Know-Nothing political party
•excerpts from a letter written by Frederick Douglass to his former slaveholder, Thomas Auld
Encourage your students to think deeply about the topics associated with these topics. You can also assign the analysis activities as homework.
