Constitution Primary Sources Analysis Activity
This resource includes 6 carefully curated primary sources to analyze that will enhance any Constitution & A New Nation unit. It is aligned to my Constitution & A New Nation Unit Bundle. Each of the primary documents focuses on one aspect of the Articles of Confederation, the US Constitution, and the five presidencies of George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, & John Monroe to analyze. Encourage your students to think deeply about the topics associated with these topics. You can also assign the analysis activities as homework. There is a PDF & GOOGLE version.
Primary documents include:
•letters from Thomas Jefferson & John Adams between 1791 and 1801 that show their friendship deteriorating
•maps of the United States Military District (Northwest Ordinance)
•excerpts from the Articles of Confederation & the U.S. Constitution
•excerpt of Alexander Hamilton’s letter persuading Harrison Gray Otis to encourage the House of Representatives to vote for Thomas Jefferson instead of Aaron Burr in the election of 1800
•political cartoon about the Hartford Convention
•political cartoon about the relocation of the U.S. capital to Philadelphia & then to the District of Columbia
